Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Tertiary Institutions have reaffirmed their commitment to providing accessible and quality education by ensuring that every child, regardless of background, geographical location or financial constraints, has access to tertiary education opportunities.
Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Tertiary Institutions National Roadshow in Gaborone on Wednesday, the chairperson of the initiative, Mr Chris Moiketsi highlighted that the show aimed to bridge the gap between aspiring students and higher education institutions by bringing essential educational resources directly to communities across the country.
He said historically, many students in remote parts of Botswana faced significant challenges in accessing tertiary education due to financial constraints and the distance to institutions in major cities like Gaborone therefore, the roadshow was set to visit multiple towns and villages across the country, to address these barriers.
Since inception in 2015, the Tertiary Institutions National Roadshow has transformed the lives of thousands of students, giving them the opportunity to explore educational programmes, scholarships and career paths they might not have otherwise considered, Mr Moiketsi said.
The theme: Bridging Gaps, Building Futures; Revitalising Education through Collaboration, he said, reflected the importance of working together across public and private educational sectors to create more accessible pathways to higher education.
Mr Moiketsi said a total of 22 various tertiary institutions and education partners would combine efforts to make tertiary education accessible to all Batswana, helping to create a brighter, more prosperous future for the entire nation.
He further said that the initiative aligned with Botswana’s broader vision of enhancing education to meet the demands of the future workforce.
Mr Moiketsi stressed the need for a diversified skills base, particularly through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which would empower young people with the skills necessary for employment and entrepreneurship in today’s rapidly changing global economy, noting that education was the most powerful tool for shaping the future.
