Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) president, Mr Biggie Butale has affirmed his commitment to the founding purpose of the BPF.
Giving a keynote address Saturday during BPF third National Congress, Mr Butale stressed that he remained steadfast in seeing to it that BPF achieved its key objective of attaining state power in 2024.
Following the recent direction given by the High Court of Botswana on who were the legitimate BPF leaders, he said his party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) was now seized with the sole objective of preparing the party for governance through synergies with other like-minded organisations.
“The idea and objective of the BPF with respect to 2024, is not to participate in an election just for the sake of routine, but to take over government in collaboration with other political parties that are seeking to fulfill the aspirations and wishes of Batswana for a better life in this country,” he said.
For that reason, he implored each member of the party to begin the journey of impact with change towards unity to move forward in solidarity and singleness of purpose.
“So, I earnestly call upon each of us, patriots, to re-instil in ourselves the values that brought us together and bestowed upon us to form this cluster of patriotism,” he added.
Botswana Patriotic Front president also encouraged each party member to play a meaningful role in representing BPF and to let their BPF’s representation reflect positively on its objectives and aspirations for the nation.
For BPF to achieve its objectives, Mr Butale stressed, it was necessary for the party to mobilise all resources required to wrestle the Botswana Democratic Party and usher in a Botswana that Batswana deserved. “We plan to engage the BDP, meeting them pound to pound in terms of presence and activism in all constituencies, by being innovative in fundraising for vehicles, fuel and our branded merchandise,” he added.
Additionally, he called upon all BPF members to pull together and work smart to come up with a strategic plan on how best to raise funds for the party and match BDP pound for pound in the coming elections and ultimately death it.
The two-day congress was meant to place a proposal before delegates to ratify the decision of the BPF NEC to join the Umbrella for Democratic Change.
Other issues discussed at the non-electic congress included constitutional amendments, primary elections and rules and regulations.
