Africa-Press – Botswana. As the FNB Premiership League action continues this weekend, a challenging encounter is expected between Francistown based Calendar Stars and Matebele FC from Oodi on Sunday at the Francistown City Council Stadium.
The hosts, Calendar Stars, will be chasing their first-ever win of the season after seven matches without victory. They currently sit at the bottom of the log with just two points, making Sunday’s fixture crucial for their survival hopes.
Matebele FC, also struggling this season, will equally be eager to turn their fortunes around. They occupy position 15 with five points, and a win could help them climb the log standings.
Given both teams’ poor form, the encounter promises a competitive but tight affair, with Calendar Stars likely to draw slight motivation from home advantage.
In attack, Matebele appear stronger, having scored 11 goals so far, a decent return compared to other teams in the league. Calendar Stars, meanwhile, have found the back of the net only twice, highlighting their ongoing struggles to find the back of the net.
Defensively, both sides have shown vulnerability. Calendar Stars have conceded 11 goals, while Matebele have let in 17, suggesting that both teams will need to tighten their backlines.
Recent form also paints a difficult picture for both teams. Calendar Stars have gone six matches without a win, most recently losing 0–1 to Sua Flamingoes, while Matebele have suffered five consecutive defeats, their latest being a 1–3 loss to Gaborone United.
With neither side enjoying good form, Sunday’s match may not produce fireworks, but it could prove pivotal in shaping both teams’ seasons. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
Elsewhere, also on Sunday, Gaborone United will face Black Lions at GU Stadium in Gaborone, kicking off at 4pm.
Saturday’s fixtures include BDF XI against TAFIC FC at VTM Arena in Metsimotlhabe, Police XI vs Sua Flamingoes at Lobatse Sports Complex, and Nico United vs Township Rollers at Sam Sono Stadium in Selebi-Phikwe, all game are set for 4 pm.
Later on Saturday, Mochudi Centre Chiefs will lock horns with Morupule Wanderers at GU Stadium in Gaborone, with kick-off at 5pm.
