Africa-Press – Botswana. Mochudi Centre Chiefs may be behind Holy Ghost in the race for promotion, but the vision of making a return to the elite league is not lost to the team management.
While an automatic promotion is now out of their own hands, Magosi management is definitely not losing hope. In a bid to galvanize the team spirit ahead going into the last few crucial matches, Chiefs recently unveiled a P200 000 sponsorship from CrackIt.
The cash windfall is expected to be used to motivate the Centre Chiefs players and technical team as they navigate the few matches standing between them and a long-awaited return to the elite league.
Speaking to Sunday Standard sports, the team’s chairman Edwin Mothulatshipi said looking at their vision board, there has been an interesting progress. He said the team is developing daily in terms of governance, management, finances as well as technical.
The Centre Chiefs executive committee chairperson noted that while challenges continue to threaten to derail the team, giving up is not an option. “The dream remains the elite league, whichever way possible. Whether through automatic promotion or play offs, we will do that,” he said.
With fear that sponsors’ monies may end up lining individuals’ pockets, Mothulatshipi waved off the possibility of that happening during his term in office. “The money will be used solely for the club, players and its development only, there will be no one’s pocket filled with money not meant for them.”
“We are a new Mochudi Centre Chiefs, embracing current management trends with accountability as our primary motivator. We are transforming from traditional to commercial management, learning and developing new ideas,” he explained.
Concerning the mood of the Magosi family ahead of the crucial last games, Mothulatshipi said: “players are excited and ready to fulfill our dream, supporters are also rallying behind their team making the road to elite league even better.”
He further added that things are going way better for them, adding that it is an exciting journey for them. He said they are learning and taking one day at a time and will get better than yesterday.
Commenting on the arrival of CrackIt, who join current sponsors Townseed, Mothulatshipi had this to say: “the more the merrier, we will review all our engagements at the end of the season or at the AGM, and make necessary decisions, for now eyes on the ball.”
Meanwhile, Mothulatshipi said there will be new faces in the team’s management, adding that transformation almost dictates that. He said “we have managed to close the gap for General Manager with a temporary one, who has closed the gap between players, technical team as well as supporters. We will go on look for the best personnel to benefit the team.”
