Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Tennis players, Angel Chakayuka and Malak Macheng left for Kenya to compete in two high ranking tournaments.

The duo will kick-start their journey to greatness with the ITF/CAT Grade one 14 and under tournament from February 19-22. From February 24 to March 1, they will compete in the ITF/CAT African Junior Champs 14 and under in Kenya.

Meanwhile, Ckakanyuka said they have been preparing well for the tournament although the rains were hindering their full preparations. She said they would be competing in the singles and doubles, adding that she was confident that they would bring good results from the two competitions.

“Well, due to rain, I could not do the strokes but I have been doing enough in running and exercising. Talking about the doubles, me and Malak we are a great team. I just pray that we make it to the finals,” she said.

Macheng said they had prepared well and some of the areas they invested on during preparation were emotional, mental and physical.

“Unfortunately due to the rain, we could not hit as much as we wanted, but we tried to keep up our physical side intact,” she said.

Macheng said they already know some of their opponents, as they had played against them before. In that regard they know how they play, and they would try to counter them.

Taking about the doubles, she said Chakanyuka is a great player, and they are a good combination, given that they understand each other.

The Botswana Tennis Association president, Oaitse Thipe, said in an interview that the ITF/CAT African Junior Champs is a pinnacle of Championship under 14 circuit as it carries a lot of points.

“We wanted to leave early so that they acclamatise on the clay, and if they do well in these tournaments it will put them in a good position to qualify for the European Circuit,” he said.
