Africa-Press – Botswana. Plans are underway to maintain the dilapidated Chanoga tribal administration office.
North West District Council secretary Mr Motlogelwa Thuso said this during a road show in the village on Monday.
He said funds had already been secured for the maintenance of the office while the council would be engaged to facilitate the project.
“Documents with the identified contractor were signed last week and we are hoping that the project will commence soon,” he said. Regarding the upgrading of the kgotla shelter, Mr Thuso said they would consider the community’s request, funds permitting. Mr Thuso was responding to concerns raised by the Village Development Committee’s (VDC) vice chairperson Mr Gaditshwane Kgantele about the general state of disrepair of the office. North West District commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka apprised the gathering on the Reset agenda which he said was a call for a different approach to doing things, so as to improve lives and for realisation of the country’s aspirations to become a high income economy.
“We can achieve that if we all change our attitude and increase responsibility and effective participation in sustainable national development to better our lives,” he said Mindset change, he added, started at an individual level, and therefore it behoved everyone to introspect and do things differently.
For his part, the council chairman, Mr Itumeleng Kelebetseng said parents were better placed to influence their children to change their attitudes and behaviour to better their lives.
He criticised some parents whom he said fuelled social ills by failing to give proper guidance to their children.
“We should be seen exercising positive parenting so that we groom and nurture children who will become responsible citizens in the future,” said.
