Africa-Press – Botswana. The economic success of the country needs active involvement of all citizens, hence the need for more Batswana to be involved in value chain opportunities such as minerals and other natural resources.
Taking advantage of such opportunities will aid employment creation and consequently boost national wealth, Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng has said.
Speaking in an interview after a two-day government and dikgosi retreat at Manong Game Lodge on Thursday, he said for the country to develop, there was a need to bring on board stakeholders such as traditional, and religious leadership.
He said Dikgosi appreciated President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s vision to grow an inclusive economy for the benefit of all Batswana.
He said magosi were also briefed on the intention and resolve to ensure that government projects and infrastructure were done on time and within budget, hence reducing costs incurred through financial variations as it had been in the past.
He said through Reset Agenda, the idea was for all to change how they had been doing things .
He said engaging with traditional leaders was to enable them to confidently take on board their respective communities on the government’s transformational agenda.
He said the retreat also discussed the need to preserve the reputation and values of bogosi, including the cultural identities which held Botswana united thus far.
To nurture the engagement, he said, government and dikgosi resolved to meet twice a year, to introspect and update each other on progress as part of the consultation process championed by the President.
Permanent Secretary to the President Ms Emma Peloetletse said public service through ministries and departments was ready to support the national economic transformation as per the five national priorities adopted by government in 2021.
She said ministries and departments had been trained to capacitate them on the Reset and Reclaim Agenda, adding that the Office of the President as champion had upskilled officers to understand what government wanted to achieve through the agenda.
On President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s achievements of his five priority areas, she said a lot had been done on the aspect of saving lives where government was resolute to safeguard Batswana’s lives from the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic and to mitigate its impact.
She said the restructuring of ministries which led to the creation of new ones such as that of entrepreneurship was part of government efforts to grow and support local businesses.
