Africa-Press – Botswana. The newly established Gamodubu Civil Society will play a major role in uniting the community to work together towards a better Gamodubu.

“The organisation has been established at the right time as its focus is on the different development needs of the society, including improving the lives of residents,” said the Minister for State President Mr Kabo Morwaeng during the launch in Gamodubu on Saturday.

Mr Morwaeng, also the Member of Parliament for Molepolole South said it was government’s wish for such community organisations to be established as they were viewed as major partners in community development and human empowerment.

He, therefore, applauded the pioneers of the Gamodubu Civil Society saying their initiative would fast-track the development prospects of Gamodubu.

“In developed nations, civil societies are the pioneers of developmental infrastructure and the business sector with the view to better lives of communities,” he said.

He observed that the Gamodubu Civil Society was bound to achieve the same as the brains behind the ideas were of determined and committed individuals.

Mr Morwaeng also said the fact that the civil society was a non-governmental organisation that was not politically aligned gave all the villagers the liberty to acquire membership.

He advised that roping in the local leadership among them Dikgosi and the Village Development Committee would provide neutral guidance.

The interim chairperson, Mr Moitshephi Ramothogobeng said the idea of establishing the civil society was the brainchild of some residents who were determined to bring change to the community.

“The initiative which received blessing from the village leadership was born out of the dream to unite people and share ideas on how best to develop their village,” he said.

Giving an overview, Dr Monkgogi Lenao said the challenges that emerge within communities could prompt the formation of civil societies in a bid to find solutions to such.

He said civil societies worked hand in hand with government, with focus on the development of local communities.

“Such organisations are driven by volunteerism to address the needs. They help people to share ideas and encourage them to take part in different programmes to uplift their lives,” said Dr Lenao.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Samuel Ramotlabaki hailed the initiative saying it was focused on bringing developments to the community. As such, he urged the members to remain committed and work together to fulfill their dream.
