Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo says no country can progress and sustain its level of competitiveness without coach education.
In a keynote address at the opening ceremony for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) B Coach Licensing Course recently, Mfolo said the local game had been suffocated by lack education.
“In 2017, we brought an expert from Germany, who said the reason why we are not making any quantum leap in terms of regional or continental qualifications is coach education,” Mfolo recalled.
He added that the association had also organised the CAF A course that was conducted in Jwaneng.
“I have been reliably informed that come July, we should be graduating a number of coaches who have achieved the first of its kind license in the country,” he added.
The CAF B licensing course will see 128 coaches drilled on pedagogical concepts with emphasis to tactic, physicality, technicality and mentality.
On the other hand, the association’s technical director, Tshepho Mphukuti encouraged coaches to desist from using traditional herbs and potions to enhance their chances of winning football games.
“Coaching should replace the notion of miracle-working herbs that are a popular winning mechanism in Botswana football matches,” Mphukuti said.
