Africa-Press – Botswana. The topic Cristiano Ronaldo is starting to be a nuisance for Erik Ten Haag, Manchester United’s new coach, in conversations with journalists.
The Dutch coach spoke about the Portuguese again, at a press conference in Melbourne, where he guaranteed that the 37-year-old forward will stay at Manchester United, despite rumors about his departure. In his explanations, Ten Haag ended up revealing something in CR7’s contract that was unknown to the fans.
“I am well informed, there is also an option for his contract to be extended until 2024”, revealed the coach, quoted by the newspaper ‘As’.
The Dutchman, ex-Ajax, gave the example of his situation, explaining that he does not know if he will continue at Manchester United at the end of the first season, despite having signed for three seasons.
“To be honest, despite having signed a three-year contract, in football it’s also about short term. We have to win from the beginning, so I don’t look much further ahead. I have a strategy, a process, you have to time, but in the end we have to make sure we have a winning team from the start”, he said.
Ten Haag does not guarantee that Cristiano Ronaldo will join the work when Manchester United return from the pre-season tour next week: “I can’t tell you. There has been no change in his situation.”
About the form of the Portuguese, who remains absent from the team’s work, the Manchester United coach is not worried.
“Starting the season without Cristiano? I think so, but he is training. I think we all know Ronaldo, we all know that he is a first-rate professional and that he will be in shape. at 37? I think Cristiano is capable of doing that. He has shown it throughout his career. My demand is known. I want to play in a determined way, a great player can contribute to that, and in our squad we have Ronaldo, who is one of the best”, said the coach.
