Africa-Press – Botswana. The national athletics team coach, Justice Dipeba is confident of a podium finish at the World Athletics Relays, which starts at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau.

Botswana has sent three teams of 4x400m mixed relay, 4x400m men’s and women’s relay.

The teams’ main aim at the World Relays is to book a ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Dipeba said in an interview that the assignment given to the teams was that they must make it to the podium adding that they had a meeting with athletes to make it clear to them that they needed to send a bold statement to their competitors.

He said the meeting was also called to lay objectives of this year’s edition.

“Our mission is still the same, we want to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games and we are pushing for all the teams that are here to qualify,” he said.

“We know we have the caliber, we have boys who can deliver that, so we want to see ourselves in the podium and we want to see ourselves competing with the world,” he said.

He said their presence in The Bahamas would be strongly felt, given that people and competitors knew Team Botswana’s capability.

“The boys need to know that people are aware of them, so that they can also work hard and maintain the status that they are being given by the world and everyone else who knows what we have,” he said.
