Africa-Press – Botswana. Commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe convened a high-level engagement with three key oversight bodies on October 14, 2025, at the Botswana Police Headquarters. The meeting brought together the Police Council, the Arms and Ammunition Board, and the National DNA Database Advisory Board. The objective was to strengthen collaboration, align strategic priorities, and advance a unified strategy to improve policing effectiveness across Botswana.
The session created a valuable opportunity for the Botswana Police Service (BPS) Executive and the Boards to connect, share insights, and reaffirm institutional partnerships. It also reinforced the importance of transparency, accountability, and resilience in ensuring that administrative systems support effective policing services.
In her opening remarks, Commissioner Marathe commended the Boards for their continuous contribution to the efficient operation of the BPS. She stressed that the Police Service functions best when it works in close partnership with the community. She reaffirmed the BPS commitment to a customer-focused approach in addressing emerging public safety and security challenges.
Commissioner Marathe underscored the Boards’ central role in fostering public trust. She explained that maintaining transparency and fairness in Police operations was vital to ensuring community confidence. She urged the members to remain dedicated to their national duty despite challenges, expressing gratitude for their ongoing commitment to a safer Botswana.
The Chairpersons of the three oversight bodies, speaking on behalf of their members, thanked the Commissioner and the BPS Executive for the opportunity to engage directly. They highlighted that the session allowed for meaningful dialogue and alignment on key operational goals. They also noted that it laid the foundation for enhanced collaboration and better coordination in their respective areas of oversight.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Secretary for Safety and Security in the Ministry for State President, Mr. Kago Ramokate, encouraged the Board members to acquaint themselves with the laws and statutes that guide their mandates. He stressed the need for informed decision-making and acknowledged the members’ dedication to public service. He also praised their selflessness and volunteer spirit in supporting national safety objectives.
The engagement marked an important step in strengthening institutional cooperation between the BPS and its oversight structures.
