Africa-Press – Botswana. The Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe, received the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 at Police Headquarters on 11 September 2025. The visit marked a key step in aligning security preparations with broader event planning as Botswana prepares to host the global championship.

In welcoming the delegation, Commissioner Marathe congratulated Botswana for winning the bid to host the prestigious event. She commended Chief Executive Officer Moses Bantsi and his committee for their appointments, noting that their leadership would be instrumental in delivering a world-class competition. She pledged the Botswana Police Service’s full commitment to supporting the successful hosting of the games.

Marathe stressed that the event would not only strengthen Botswana’s position on the global sports stage but also stimulate economic activity and inspire local athletes, particularly relay teams, to strive for excellence. She revealed that the Botswana Police Service had nominated Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations, Katlholo Mosimanegape, to serve on the Local Organising Committee as a sign of their dedication to ensuring success.

Mr Bantsi briefed the meeting on the current state of preparations, highlighting the progress already made. He expressed appreciation for the partnership with the Botswana Police Service, emphasizing that strong collaboration would create a safe and welcoming environment for both citizens and international visitors.

He further called for united efforts across all sectors of society, stressing that the collective support of Batswana was vital to realizing the vision of hosting a successful global event. According to him, the games will not only showcase Botswana’s sporting capabilities but also reflect the spirit of patriotism and unity.

Commissioner Marathe was joined by her Deputy Commissioners, Busang Lesola for Crime Investigations, Solomon Mantswe for Support Services, and Katlholo Mosimanegape for Operations, as well as senior members of the management team. Their presence signaled the high-level commitment of the Botswana Police Service to ensuring that the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 are delivered in a secure and well-coordinated manner.
