Africa-Press – Botswana. Commissioner Dinah Marathe has called on Debswana security graduates to uphold excellence, discipline, and integrity, describing these qualities as the foundation of effective security work. She made the remarks during the graduation ceremony for the first cohort to complete the Certificate V in Security Risk Management in Orapa yesterday, 13 November 2025.
Commissioner Marathe praised the graduates for their dedication and encouraged them to apply their newly acquired skills to bring positive change to their workplaces and communities. She highlighted the role of the Botswana Police Service (BPS) in developing the curriculum and providing continuous guidance, emphasizing the long-standing partnership between BPS and Debswana as a key pillar for national security and economic stability.
“Training of this nature elevates security officers from operational roles to analytical and strategic professionals,” Commissioner Marathe said, reaffirming BPS’s commitment to public safety, community policing, and public education.
While noting a reduction in overall crime, the Commissioner warned that violent acts, including gender-based violence, drug abuse, and road accidents, remain areas of concern. She urged society to show tolerance and responsibility, particularly during the upcoming festive season.
Mr. Mogakolodi Maoketsa, General Manager of the Orapa, Letlhakane, and Damtshaa Mines, welcomed the attendees and described the ceremony as a shared success for Debswana and its strategic partners. He thanked all stakeholders for their support in making the programme a reality, highlighting the importance of collaboration in strengthening security standards and professional development.
The graduation represents a significant step in professionalizing security services in Botswana, preparing officers to meet modern security challenges with strategic insight and community-focused approaches.
