CONSERVATION CLUB AIMS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES

Africa-Press – Botswana. Gumare based Okavango Birdlife Conservation Club is appealing for sponsorship to facilitate the club in fulfilling its dream of uplifting the lives of community members.

Speaking during the meeting on how to revive the club in Gumare recently, the founder also the organisation’s secretary, Mr Ntema Lesolentsi, said formed in 2015, the club had associations in other parts of Okavango.

He said the intention was to create employment for communities in Gumare and the rest of Okavango through land acquired at Xhanahaxhe fields which is intended for tourism and agro-tourism purposes. The piece of land also has a camp site, a cultural village and assist integrated farming.

“We aim to be a bird sanctuary of repute, to provide a tourist stop-over in Gumare and in places where we have associations and to promote agro-tourism,” he said.

He said they envisioned to have tented accommodation for tourists, have a reception area, and a restaurant at their plot in Gumare.

The club, he said, had been advised to have an access road, internal roads, water system toilets and shower as pre-requisites for funding.

As such he said they were seeking assistance from any organization to meet the requirements.

Mr Lesolentsi said their plan was to charge an entrance fee once fully operational to raise funds for continuity.

A member of the club, Ms Kebinaphuti Moengwe, said the club needed support from community members and government to realise its dream.

Gumare Kgosi Moitshepi Molelwa said the club required support from all stakeholders.
