Africa-Press – Botswana. The COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 5-12 is continuing in primary schools.
The COVID-19 programme coordinator at ACHAP, Mr Ofentse Seosenyeng, was at Itumeleng Primary School in Gaborone on Monday to offer eligible children first and second doses.
He said most of the children getting their first dose had not reached the required age during the first immunisation.
The school head, Ms Pinkie Lefakae, commended the majority of parents for consenting that their children be vaccinated.
She noted that about 90 per cent of eligible pupils had taken their first doze.
She said vaccinated children were less likely to suffer severe effects of COVID-19, adding that vaccinating children would also keep schools open.
“COVID-19 vaccine gives good protection against your child getting seriously ill,” she said, adding for stronger and longer lasting protection against future COVID-19 variants they needed booster shots.”
