Africa-Press – Botswana. Debonairs Pizza eatery at Toro Junction in Francistown has been commended for restoring the dignity of less privileged members of the society.

Tshwaragano Ward Development Committee (WDC) deputy chairperson, Mr Mogae Mponang said the eatery continued to change lives of many disadvantaged people by donating food hampers, wheelchairs and other necessities.

He was speaking at the handing over of grocery worth P2 000 by Toro Junction Debonairs restaurant to Ms Modiri Ofitlhile of Block 9 in Francistown Tuesday.

The beneficiary, who is unemployed is the caretaker of her six children.

Mr Mogae explained that this was not the first time the restaurant donated to the less privileged residents of Block 9, citing as an example a wheelchair which was donated to nine year-old Keorapetse Obeilwe in March. He said Debonairs also donated food hampers to a disadvantaged member in Block 9 early this year.

Mr Mogae appealed to other companies to heed the call by government to assist disadvantaged members of the society.

He therefore thanked Debonairs for the donation which would go a long way in changing the lives of the Ofitlhile family.

Speaking at the event, one of Debonairs employees, Ms Viginiah Chinyepi said each Debonairs store across the country raised P2 000 every month to buy items that the shop donated to the less privileged members of the society.

She said such donations were a way of giving back to the community.

Ms Chinyepi also stated that this was not the first time the restaurant donated similar items to the less privileged members of the society since the Toro Junction restaurant opened its doors to the public in February.

For her part, Ms Ofitlhile, who could not hide her excitement promised that the food would not go to waste especially that it was a scarce commodity in her household.

“The donation will deliver the right solution at the right time and it will give me and my family faith, freedom, and happiness,” she said.
