Africa-Press – Botswana. Seasoned Kalahari X-country racing club rider Wade Den reproduced his past form and arrived first at the Botswana Motorsport National Off-road round one.

Hosted by his club at the Two Nine farm near Kopong the race entailed spectacular four loops of about 48km each.

Den who started on the sixth spot put up some hard work, grit and determination to finish ahead of all his rivals in the elite class division within 2:33.43.

He was followed by another first position prospect and teammate Kosmas Mamaloukos on 2:35.19 while John Kelly of Kameel Motor club came third on 2:41.10.

Speaking at the end of the forth round, Den said the route was nice, fast and flowing as he controlled the pace from the first lap.

He said he enjoyed the nice cross sections of the route, which were more thrilling especially around the Kopong river’s tight and muddy track.

Just like he did in Oodi and Metsimotlhabe Off road races, Den set off with blistering pace and skill much to the amusement of a handful spectators who had gathered at several spectator points along the route on a chilly Saturday morning.

Race organiser Alida Steytler said they were impressed with their first event of the off-road calendar.

She said they had to remark the route because last week’s torrential rains had affected the markings.

She said the ground was eroded which presented a daunting task to riders making the race more tight and ironically exciting.

Steytler said they were planning to host as many races as possible to keep the riders engaged.

She said they were proud of putting together three events in one day.

The next Offroad race is slated for July. In the OR 3 class Euan Harmse of Kalahari club came first while in the female OR 6 class Tadiwa Tafa arrived four minutes ahead of Elang Chibana to claim the first position.

Cyle Pretorius won the high school OR 7 class while Suri-Jade Nielson won the ladies quad bike class.
