Desert Nxau Draws against City Polar

Africa-Press – Botswana. Tsabong based Desert Nxau and Ramonaka based City Polar have drawn 0-0 in a tight windy game on Saturday at Tsabong VDC ground during the First Division South League match.

Desert Nxau were under pressure to win the match on home ground following another goalless game last week against Prisons XI.

In the first 20 minutes, the hosts were dominating the game, exuding organisation and compact rhythm, stifling ‘Jungle Rose’ boys who seemed reluctant to push forward.

“Desert Nxau made a block in front of our defense and we failed to penetrate their backline.

We had planned to get a goal in the first 20 minutes of the game but unfortunately we did not manage as they were too strong for us.

In an effort to get back into the game, we started with long balls to create space so that we could try to score with aerial balls but we failed,” said City Polar head coach Jerry Moitse.

He said the Jungle Rose had prepared well for the game but failed to convert their chances.

“We started with the 4-4-2 diamond shape to try by all means to compact the middlefield to circulate the ball very quickly, to be more pressing and aggressive in our last third but unfortunately we failed to get a goal. We are going back to the drawing board to our philosophy of playing ball,” he said.

Coach Moitse appreciated that the players did well given the circumstances.

“It is not easy to get the maximum points away from home traveling long distances. We had five clear chances that we could have scored but we did not even score one. We failed to convert our chances but its part of the game of football,” he said.

Desert Nxau head coach Joseph Coetzee said they started off well in the first half of the game tightly containing City Polar in the first 32 minutes of the game, having the game fully under their control and out of nowhere they lost grip, which allowed their opponents space to get back into the game.

“When playing the game, it is important to score in the early minutes of the game, which gives one comfortable lead against opponents and confidence but we failed to convert our chances,” he said.

The ‘Boys to Men’ fought hard to score against their opponents but to no avail.

“In the second half, we started well in the first 10 minutes of the game and then quickly lost composure, which left more room for our opponents. We have noted these mistakes and we plan to rectify them. In the dying minutes of the game, we nearly lost the game as our opponents started controlling the game partly due to favourable wind, which was blowing towards their direction that pushed the balls towards their side,” he said.

Coetzee also said the boys lost concentration due to it but they needed to adapt to these kinds of situations.

So far the teams have played three games in the First Division South League where City Polar has drawn in all games managing to collect three points, which places it at number seven out of 12 teams in the log standings, while Desert Nxau is seating at number nine.
