Africa-Press – Botswana. Concerned by escalating break-ins and theft in tribal administration offices, some Dikgosi have revealed that thieves take advantage of lack of security guards and break into offices.

Through Ntlo ya Dikgosi, they (Dikgosi) pleaded with the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to consider providing them with security guards.

This follows a question that was posed by Kgosi Tjazako Munduu of Ngami Region asking the minister if he was aware that thieves take advantage of lack of security guards in their offices in some Dikgotla and break-in to steal office equipment.

Responding to Munduu’s question, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Talita Monnakgotla conceded to be aware that thieves break into tribal offices due to lack of security.

“I appreciate the need to provide security in all Dikgotla across the country because of the rising incidents of crime. My ministry will continue to provide services in Dikgotla funds permitting. Currently there are 243 Dikgotla without security in Botswana. There are 93 Dikgotla without security in Central district, 33 in North West, 30 in Kweneng, 22 in North East, 11 in Kgatleng districts to mention but a few,” Monnakgotla said.
