Africa-Press – Botswana. Batswana living outside the country have been encouraged to play a pivotal role in the social and economic development of the country by facilitating knowledge transfer to their motherland, Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti has said.
He was speaking in Gaborone on Tuesday during a ceremony to receive Trauma Orthopedic equipment donated by Batswana based in the United States through their organisation dubbed Mission for Motion (M4M).
He extended gratitude to M4M for the generous support to his ministry ever since they came into contact with them about a year ago.
“I personally thank Mr Rockie Moncho, a Motswana who mobilised a team of medical specialists to come to Botswana last year where they successfully conducted 30 orthopaedic operations in Mahalapye Hospital,” Dr Dikoloti said.
He pointed out that the gesture helped to reduce the backlog of patients that needed orthopaedic interventions especially since the health system was overwhelmed and in need of resources.
Dr Dikoloti said the trauma orthopaedic equipment and implants would go a long way in assisting patients in need of orthopaedic interventions.
On behalf of M4M, Mr Moncho said their mission was to provide health opportunities for those who would not otherwise have access to them.
He also challenged Batswana living outside the country to serve their mother country.
