Africa-Press – Botswana. Kgosi Kebadiretse Kebonemang of Dimajwe, in Serowe West constituency has expressed gratitude for government developments that were progressing well in his area of jurisdiction.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, he said it was paramount for services and developments to reach people at all times as they offered valuable recourse to those who were in dire need.
He said developments trickling into the village brought peace of mind and positivity to the community.
Kgosi Kebonemang said the village benefitted from economic stimulus programme (ESP) to undertake numerous projects, which changed the economic landscape of the area.
To this end, government used its expenditure to expand the economy of the village through building kgotla offices, a police post, which is an ongoing project and electrified village development committee (VDC) houses through ESP.
As for community constituency projects (CCP), Kgosi Kebonemang said the village built a community hall and three bachelor pads for public servants.
Two kgotla shelters in the village were also erected through CCP at Kaba and Kethoetsweng wards, he said, adding that residents also had income-generating projects, citing a poultry structure, garden, brick-moulding project, sorghum processing plant housed in a two-hectare piece of land at the village’s central business area.
On other issues, Kgosi Kebonemang warned against those who disrupt unity in the village by derailing loyal residents to become hotheaded, pointing that he intended to meet them so as to put them on course.
He said the detrimental behaviour was not healthy for the village as it might incite violence.
He said brewing of unlawful concoctions in the village was a concern and the leadership normally took appropriate action to arrest the problem.
He decried stock theft in the area, noting such would impoverish Batswana for whom pastoral farming remained the mainstay of.
The VDC chairperson, Ms Tshidiso Jane said as development drivers in the village, the committee was doing everything in its power to ensure services and developments reach residents at all times, but resource and budgetary constraints were an impediment.
She said their mission was to advocate for residents’ empowerment so as to live decent lives through engaging in income-generating projects to better the lives of constituents.
