Africa-Press – Botswana. Ditsweletse Junior Secondary School in Letlhakane scooped both Moot Court and Public Speaking championships during the annual Rare Gems public speaking competitions recently.
Letlhakane Senior Secondary School came second under Moot Court and also emerged as Moot Court Best Memorials.
Ditsweletse was represented by Farida Kha and Angela Kasanga under Moot Court, whilst Katlo Masege and Kha represented the school under public speaking. Theon Ikgopoleng and Maatla Selo were Letlhakane senior representatives.
Speaking on behalf of Lucara Botswana, which sponsored the event, the company’s safety health environment and community relations manager, Ms Kesego Kereemang, said the competition helped to enhance oratory skills among pupils.
She said Lucara Botswana partnered with Orate Africa Trust and education ministry through this public schools debating initiative.
Ms Kereemang stated that Boteti pupils would now compete with their peers in Tanzania.
‘’We believe that mooting is one of the essential parts for high school students to get the proficiency in the legal field and one must do different kinds of mooting as the amount of exposure it gives to the students is tremendous, plus the knowledge and experience gained by the Students is also quite helpful as it will help them in the future,’’ she said.
Schools that participated in the competition were Letlhakane senior, Ditsweletse, Makgadikgadi JSS, Mopipi JSS, Motopi JSS and Makalamabedi JSS.
