Africa-Press – Botswana. The Dolphins Women’s Basketball Team, reigning champions of the Botswana Basketball League, have officially qualified for the 2025 African Women’s Basketball League (BAL) to be held in Windhoek, Namibia, from November 6 to 14.

The qualification marks a historic moment for the Gaborone-based club and Botswana basketball as a whole. The Dolphins will represent the nation on one of the continent’s biggest basketball stages, competing against Africa’s top women’s teams for regional supremacy.

Team officials confirmed their readiness to take on the challenge, emphasizing that the squad’s focus is on showcasing Botswana’s growing basketball talent and competing with discipline and intensity.

“This qualification means everything to us,” a team representative said. “We’ve worked hard all season to earn this opportunity. Now we’re ready to take our game beyond our borders and show Africa what Botswana basketball is made of.”

The Dolphins secured their BAL slot after dominating the 2025 Botswana Basketball League season, maintaining consistent form and demonstrating superior teamwork on both ends of the court. Their championship win capped a campaign defined by tactical precision, strong defensive play, and standout individual performances.

The upcoming tournament in Windhoek will feature some of the best women’s basketball clubs from across the continent. For Botswana, it presents a rare chance to build international experience, gain exposure, and inspire the next generation of female athletes.

Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, along with officials from the Botswana Basketball Association (BBA), have expressed pride in the team’s achievement. Supporters across the country are already rallying behind the Dolphins, calling on fans to wear the national colors — blue, black, and white — in solidarity.

“Put on those blue, black, and white Champs stripes and show Africa how we do it in BW,” the BBA declared in a celebratory message.

The Dolphins’ participation in the African Women’s Basketball League not only reflects their excellence but also underscores Botswana’s growing presence in continental sports. As they head to Namibia, all eyes will be on the reigning champions to make a bold statement for the nation and cement Botswana’s name among Africa’s basketball elite.
