Africa-Press – Botswana. Over 15 local athletes have been banned for doping violations, says Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) acting chief executive officer, Tebogo Kesupile.
She said in an interview that while some had finished their band, some were still on suspension.
she said they were worried about the local athletes who had been banned for doping.
She said BNOC had an anti-doping programme and a National Anti-Doping Office (NADO) as well as education and testing programmes.
She said some of the testing programmes were mandatory for athletes, and that those who were part of the registered testing pool were required to provide their whereabouts at all times.
Kesupile said as BNOC they encouraged athletes, parents and federations to be informed about the dangers and repercussions of doping.
Kesupile said they were planning to combine anti-doping and the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP).She further said as the Olympic movement, they cherished values such as fair play and friendship.
She noted that they collaborated with Parwe Junior Secondary School in Mahalapye and other schools from different villages in the programme, adding that they had seen behavioural change in children.
