Africa-Press – Botswana. The European Union Delegate in partnership with Alliance Francaise opened this year’s film festival with an interesting documentary dubbed An Invisible Omen: A Notion of Going Home at New Capitol Cinema on Wednesday.

The festival themed: Fighting For…, which shows that people’s fights and struggles can be of a different nature and they can shape someone’s future, is in its fifth year and will end tomorrow. An Invisible Omen is about Peter Mbarimbari from South Sudan, who was forced to flee his home due to a civil war.

He shares his experience of living between Nigeria and China and how he rarely went home to visit his wife, children and family.

He shares his bad and good experiences of both and how the war had left most of the people homeless and orphaned. Also, Peter shares how the struggles have helped him to improve his life and that of the family he was separated from for a long time.

The other movie, Smuggling Hendrix, is about a musician who is preparing to leave Cyprus for a better life overseas.

The starring found his plans twisted and disrupted after his dog goes missing past the border that divides the Greek South from the Turkish North.

He struggles to sneak the dog back into the country and later gives up after they nearly got arrested.

The movie teaches about how people near the border live and how they relate. Through the EU Film Festival, movie lovers will experience 10 films.

They will enjoy a variety of films from EU countries such as Belgium, Czech Republic, France, and Germany. Some of the films have been sourced locally from some of the best directors that Botswana has to offer.

The festival will also feature amazing performances and will organise master classes and workshops for local artistes with a passion for music.

Another highlight will be a concert by Poetvango and the EU Film Festival, which will showcase movies at the Botswana Open University in Maun on June 8-10.
