Africa-Press – Botswana. Farmers in Serowe South district have been urged to take care of their fields so that they can reap something from their farming efforts.

Local MP Leepetswe Lesedi made the request when he visited Kgaswe farmers and Senapa councilors in Serowe yesterday.

Mr Lesedi said the government spends a lot of money on farming for Batswana but the sin of the wolf is that some divide the fields and go to live at home.

He said that neglect of the fields could cause the government to change its mind about farming them and that could have serious consequences including failure to produce food for the world.

He encouraged them to return to the old way of guarding the fields and caring for their livestock to avoid conflict with their neighbors.

Addressing the tractor owners, the MP asked them to stop the practice of not plowing at once and finishing his field before moving on to the next farmer, saying the practice of some of them is to plow the fields a few with the intention of catching them so that they can bring them back he puts the farmers in the smoke so they are left with nothing.

Among other things, Mr Lesedi informed the public that parliament had decided to increase the number of constituencies from 57 to

The farmer in charge of Serowe village and the fields in the Serowe South district, Ms Galesenye Tlhalefang, said that they as a department are also concerned about farmers who do not take care of their fields after harvesting.

He said the government spends a lot of money on farming but farmers do not register the harvest. He asked them to work together to change that situation, and also asked them to revive their farmer committees as they could help them to run other things smoothly including arranging for the receipt of seeds from the farmers. He said the committees could also ensure that farmers were able to meet with farmers in their districts from time to time.
