Africa-Press – Botswana. South Africa became the second African team to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Women’s Football World Cup, after beating Italy, Wednesday, by 3-2.
Nigeria (group B) was the first on the African continent to qualify for the next stage. The remaining representatives, namely Morocco and Zambia, were not so lucky.
The goals of the match, referring to the third and final round (group G), were scored by Genedelta Orsi in the 32nd minute (own goal), Hildah Magala (67′) and Thembi Kgatla (90+2) for the South Africans.
The player Arianna Caruso (11′ from penalty and at 74) pointed to the Italian selection.
In the other match of the round and in the same group, Sweden, which was qualified in advance, beat Argentina, by 2-0, with goals from Rebecka Blomqist (66′) and Elin Rubnsson (90′).
Already qualified for the round of 16, the teams from the Netherlands and the USA (group E) join Japan, Spain (C), Norway and Switzerland (A), England and Denmark (D), South Africa and Sweden (G), Colombia (H), Nigeria and Australia (B).
Playing at this moment, the formations of Jamaica/Brazil and Panama/France for group F, led by the French with four points, the same as the Jamaicans, in second place – Brazilians and Panamanians follow with three and zero pts.
