Africa-Press – Botswana. The Ministry of Health informs the public that first line Tubercolousis medicines are now available and have been dispatched to facilities across the country.
A public notice from the Ministry says there has been shortage of such medicines in the country in recent weeks.
“Through its engagements with development partners and some neighbouring countries, the Ministry of Health has been able to secure some medicines to fill the gap,” says the notice.
The statement further says another consignment which will stabilise the TB medicines availability in the country is expected by mid-May 2025. The Ministry is aware of shortages of other medicines. Fortunately, for most, such as those for asthma, there are alternatives available, it stated.
The ministry says it understands the panic and anxiety that engulfed some people, following the shortages that were experienced in recent weeks and therefore it is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that there is continuous and consistent supply of all critical medicines in the country.
The Ministry says all those who missed their TB treatment due to shortages are advised to visit their regular health facilities for refills, re-initiation or advice, as may be appropriate.
