Africa-Press – Botswana. Fourteen young darts players from the Northern Region have secured their places in the Botswana Darts Association (BODA) national finals to be held in Gaborone next month.
The players will compete against their Southern Region counterparts for a spot in the national team, destined for the African Union Sports Council Youth Darts Championship (Region 5) in Mazuwe, Zimbabwe in August.
The successful players represent a range of schools and include five Under-18 girls; Montle Matlho, Wame Mabelebele, Amanda Malidza (all from Mater Spei College), Laone Kereteletswe (Shashe River School), and Tshephang Balang (out of school).
The Under-18 boys finalists are: Tiiso Matseka, Powell Mosotho (all from Mater Spei College), Floyd Bakaang and Katlego Phoza (all from Francistown Secondary School). Completing the finalists are three Under-15 boys, Letso Balang (Satellite Primary School), Junior Baakike (Lebogang Junior Secondary School) and Goitseone Chidubi (John Phoko Primary School in Tonota).
BODA Northern Region Public Relations Officer, Retshepileone Smith said the regional tournament proceeded smoothly. He expressed confidence that the selected squad would progress to the national finals and ultimately represent Botswana in the Region 5 tournament in Zimbabwe. Smith also appealed to parents to provide the necessary support to their children.
