FRAFA INVITES PUPILS TO AFCON GAME

Africa-Press – Botswana. Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) will allow pupils to enter Obed Itani Chilume Stadium without charge to watch an AFCON qualifier between Botswana and Equatorial Guinea this afternoon.

Mater Spei College, Francistown Senior Secondary School, Shashe River School and Masunga Senior Secondary School pupils have been invited to the second leg encounter.

“Note that all learners will have free access to the stadium and two teachers (from each school) will be given complementary tickets,” said the letter written to the schools.

FRAFA chairperson, Carlos Motaung, said in an interview that a 2008 study by BFA found out that regularly listening to and watching sports stimulated different areas of the brain and could improve neurological function.

He said the main objectives of the invitation was to introduce and promote grassroots development in schools and communities not previously reached before.

In addition, he explained that the other objective was to continuously encourage increased participation of both boys and girls in football as well as to consolidate football foundations in the country to ensure continuous development.

“We must ensure that every Motswana child has an opportunity to play football regardless of their geographical location,” he said.

The other objective, he said, was to run regulated youth and elite leagues across the country and keep track of all talented players through proper training and motoring.

Motaung said BFA had realised that there was a lot of talent and potential hidden in schools hence the need to unearth such talents for the development of football in the country.

Zebras made its maiden appearance of the AFCON in 2012 and a dream of a second appearance are slowly fading following a 0-2 loss to Equatorial Guinea on Friday. With one point since the start of the campaign, Zebras hope to take advantage of the home ground to record their first win.

At the start of the campaign, Zebras lost 0-1 to Libya and held Tunisia goalless before losing to Equatorial Guinea.
