Africa-Press – Botswana. The Global Fund Senior Fund Portfolio Manager for Southern and Eastern Africa and the Middle East, Ms Marion Gleixner, paid a courtesy call on Botswana’s Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Stephen Modise. The meeting focused on ongoing support and opportunities to strengthen Botswana’s health programmes.

Botswana has been a long-standing beneficiary of Global Fund grants. The Ministry of Health has received support in HIV and TB response, including capacity building, systems strengthening, and programme implementation. These initiatives have helped improve access to treatment and enhance public health outcomes.

During the meeting, Minister Dr Modise invited Ms Gleixner to identify areas where Botswana could improve to maximise benefits from the Global Fund. Ms Gleixner noted that the country appeared to be lagging in implementation in certain areas. The Minister assured her that the government would address the gaps to ensure better programme performance.

Ms Gleixner’s visit is part of broader discussions on US support to Botswana’s health sector. The engagement signals continued collaboration between the Ministry of Health and international partners to strengthen the country’s HIV and TB interventions and improve overall public health infrastructure.
