Africa-Press – Botswana. Government will review its processes in order to enhance the ease with which the public accesses essential services.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Kanye, President Advocate Duma Boko said in its commitment to make access to services smooth and seamless, government would review its policies, procedures and processes to identify and do away with bottlenecks that impede progress.
Advocate Boko said it was government’s plan to transform the country’s outlook on all fronts in the next three years, something that would result in Batswana reaping the most out of their citizenship of the country.
Thus, he said any laws and other legal instruments found to be standing in the way of such transformation would be reviewed without hesitation to facilitate the cessation of any bureaucratic practices within government.
President Boko said in addition to delivering services with diligence and a sense of urgency, no functions of government would be performed without timelines and targets having been set to guide implementation.
On government’s delivery of its manifesto promises, he said there was need for a delicate balancing act between delivering on the pledges made in the run-up to the general elections and addressing various pressing issues such as the prevailing power crisis.
President Boko also reassured residents that various development projects would be implemented in their village over time, among which he cited a 158-bed district hospital.
He encouraged residents not to be bystanders in the development process of their village, but should lead the way by identifying and engaging government on the kind of developments they needed.
“It is not in doubt that you require various key developments, and it is the duty of government to avail them,” he said.
“But the onus is on you to take responsibility for the development of your district by being at the forefront and leading the way by telling government what it is that you require,” he stated.
Further to calls for the construction of internal roads and a second senior secondary school in Kanye, Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse informed the President of the village’s persistent water woes.
He also sought a progress report on the implementation of the district hospital project.
