Africa-Press – Botswana. Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ms Lesego Chombo will launch the National Week of Prayer against gender-based violence (GBV) campaign in Lentsweletau on Friday.
Following the launch, a release from the ministry states that the campaign will be rolled out to districts.
“Daily prayer services will be held at churches, mosques and other places of worship in selected towns and villages. In addition, community dialogues involving the clergy, GBV survivors, perpetrators, youth and community leaders will also be held,” states the release.
The release further says the campaign, themed: United in Prayer, Solidarity Against GBV, is meant to mobilise nationwide spiritual solidarity and raise awareness on GBV in all its forms and manifestations.
“Objectives of the campaign include fostering nationwide spiritual solidarity in addressing GBV and creating awareness about the negative impact of GBV and the importance of its prevention,” says the release.
According to the release, other objectives are to engage Faith-Based Organisations and dikgosi in advocacy, provide a supportive environment for survivors to heal and speak out and strengthen community-based interventions against GBV.
