Africa-Press – Botswana. Kanye residents have been implored to take heed of government decision to construct the new Kanye District Hospital at the showground with a view to allow progress of development projects in their village.
Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Mr Thapelo Letsholo said this while addressing a constituency consultative kgotla meeting in Kanye recently where some residents questioned the decision to relocate the hospital to the showground instead of Losabanyana, as initially planned.
The legislator had appraised the meeting that government had made a final decision to construct the hospital at the showground adding that the move would benefit the Kanye residents as the facility would be a specialist hospital.
He pleaded with residents to accept decision as there have been delays due to discussions about the location of the hospital, adding that funds had been allocated for the project, and that most people were waiting in anticipation as they long longed to have a hospital in Kanye.
Mr Letsholo also informed his constituents that construction of the Kanye Stadium was underway at Mhiko, near Sejelo Police Station at the tune of P10million.
He pointed out that another milestone achieved was construction of a new primary school at Mhiko adding that work commenced last year and considerable progress had been made.
Mr Letsholo shared that through the constituency funds, the district had successfully completed the bridge at Ranaka and Ntlhantlhe, adding that both bridges were now bin use and had made life easier for the residents in those villages.
He assured that he was aware of the challenges faced by motorists using the Magotlhwane-Kgomokasitwa-Tshweneyagae gravel road, adding that though the road’s upgrade was not included in the National Development Plan, he would continue to advocate for it to be tarred.
He said a positive development was that the district had managed to install streetlights for the Magotlwane-Kgomokasitwa portion.
Mr Letsholo also noted that a waiting room had been constructed through constituency funds at Moshana Health Post, and expressed optimism that the facility would be upgraded as government had resolved that all health posts should be upgraded to the clinics.
He admitted that internal roads in Kanye North were challenges, but assured that all wards would have a fair share as plans to pave internal roads were underway.
He stated that government had taken a deliberate decision to utilise constituency funds to pave internal roads in all constituencies, adding that the move would also benefit local people who have ventured into brick moulding.
He encouraged farmers to consult with their respective field officers and establish how they can benefit from the new Temo Letlotlo ploughing scheme.
Mr Letsholo stated that the North-South Water Project, which is aimed at supplying water to the southern parts of Botswana, was nearing completion, adding that the challenge of water supply that is currently being experienced in Kanye would be alleviated.
He added that currently the water networking construction which is intended to improve the water supply with the village has begun, adding that Estate Construction Company has been awarded the tender.
Mr Letsholo implored the residents not to despair as the government was committed to solving the water challenge so that all can have access to water.
Mr Letsholo further advised his constituents to take advantages of various government programmes meant to economically empower citizens.
Village Development Committee Chairperson, Ms Kedibonye Ntokonyane decried the shortage of water in the village.
She also noted that implementation of constituency projects tended to take longer time than scheduled, which negatively impacted other planned projects.
