Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi says former Ambassador Mr Lapologang Lekoa has vast experience in foreign relations of over 46 years having served the country in a diversity of positions as a diplomat.

Therefore, in order to tap on his vast wealth of experience, President Masisi has assigned him to undertake some projects geared at improving the country’s foreign policy. President Masisi said a well-established foreign policy would not only assist the country renew and reinstate its relations with other nations but would also help navigate new and complex environments.

He said the policy would promote and project Botswana’s face in the international arena.

On Wednesday, Mr Lekoa paid a courtesy call to President Masisi to appraise him on the special projects that he has assigned him.

In his brief, Mr Lekoa said he was assigned three projects which were primarily focused on developing and improving Botswana’s foreign policy with the view of improving its relations with other nations.

Handing over the draft of the policy to Dr Masisi, Mr Lekoa said the framework of the draft policy was to guide Botswana’s relations with other nations.

Mr Lekoa was also assigned drafting a proposal to establish Botswana Diplomats Training Institution.

He said the institution would offer training on international relations, peace and security, negotiation skills and conflict resolution among others.
