Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana’s crème de la crème musicians, Han C and DJ Ngwazi, have teamed up with one of South Africa’s best vocalists and Afro-soul singers Donald Moatshe, better known as Donald, to create a hit song titled “Mmele, Pelo le Moya.”
The song, which has already stirred excitement on social media with its captivating lyrics, is set for release this week, complete with visually stunning music videos.
Fans across the region eagerly anticipate the collaboration, which promises to blend local vibrant sounds with South Africa’s soulful melodies.
Social media buzz
Han C revealed in an exclusive interview how the collaboration came to life. “It all started when Donald released a snippet of his song ‘Lerato,’ on TikTok where he sang in Setswana. People immediately noticed the similarity in our voices and started tagging me about working together,” he shared.
The buzz in social media caught Donald’s attention, leading him to reach out to Han C. As it turned out, Han C had already recorded “Mmele, Pelo le Moya” at Master KG’s studio, as a collaboration between himself and DJ Ngwazi.
When Donald heard the track during a studio visit, he expressed interest in adding his own verse, and the three artists agreed that his voice would fit perfectly.
Donald’s take
Multi-award-winning artist Donald spoke highly of Han C, describing him as “the biggest artist in Botswana” and explaining that this made the partnership a natural choice.
“We had tried to push the song earlier but it never saw the light of day,” said Han C. “Now, with Donald’s input, it felt stronger, and we decided it was the right time to release it.”
The song’s theme centres on investing one’s mind, body and soul in a relationship or project only for things to turn out in a way other than what was expected, a situation that many listeners can relate to.
For Han C, the collaboration represents more than just a single project; it’s an opportunity to spotlight Botswana’s musical talent on a broader stage.
Future collaborations
He expressed hope that this partnership will open doors for other local artists to break into regional and international markets. “The collaboration shows that artists from other countries recognise the talent we have in Botswana,” he said. “I hope this inspires others to take that leap of faith.”
Looking to the future, Han C is setting his sights beyond Botswana’s borders. He shared that his next goal is to explore new markets and expand his reach to other countries.
“Every move I am going to make is to branch out,” he said, signalling his determination to export Botswana’s music and culture to the world.
