Africa-Press – Botswana. Monday’s peaceful transfer of power from outgoing Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari to his successor Bola Tinubu is symbolic of the existence of democracy that has finally found a place in Africa’s most populous country.

This was said by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Lemogang Kwape in an interview following the inauguration of Nigeria’s 16th president. “I saw the outgoing president handing over the reins of power to the incoming president. Through their ululations, people expressed gratitude for the former president’s accomplishments while welcoming the promises made by his successor,” he said

President Tinubu’s promises to turn around the economy, review taxes, oil subsidy, security and a host of other bread and butter issues stood out for Minister Kwape.

He was also pleased with President Tinubu’s resolve to broker peace in West Africa’s trouble spots with the help of like-minded partners.

According to Minister Kwape, all the promises were well-meaning as they resonated well with the principle of democracy which Botswana subscribed to.

He said the inauguration, which attracted numerous heads of state and other dignitaries even beyond Africa’s shores, renewed hope, purpose and unity.

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi led the Botswana delegation to Mr Tinubu’s inauguration.
