Africa-Press – Botswana. The Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Lawrence Ookeditse has said that the hospital currently under construction in Moshupa was not a replacement of Kanye hospital as the two hospitals offer different levels of care.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, the assistant minister said the one proposed in Kanye is a District hospital while Moshupa is a primary hospital.
The assistant minister further explained that the project was awarded to the Development Manager, ProServe Consulting for implementation through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
“However, government has conducted a review of the Development Manager model, and as such, the project was one of the projects that were put on hold pending the decision on the outcome of the review,” he noted.
He said the decision on the recommendations of the review was still under consideration by government in consultation with other stakeholders to determine an informed position on the way-forward.
Mr Ookeditse was responding to a question from the MP for Kanye West, Mr Victor Phologolo, who had asked the minister to update on the progress of the long-awaited Kanye hospital and to confirm or refute claims that the hospital recently built in Moshupa was supposed to have been built in Kanye.
