IMPLEMENTING DEPARTMENTS URGED TO COMPLETE PROJECTS

Africa-Press – Botswana. Implementing departments have been urged to strive to complete projects before the end of the 2024/2025 financial year, which marks the end of the second Transitional National Development Plan.

Speaking during the commencement of Kweneng District Council session on Monday, chairperson Mr Allen Jacob said the plan was made as a commitment to deliver on major projects that were funded under the stimulus budget.

He said the plan took precedence over the commencement of the National Development Plan (NDP) 12.

He emphasised the need to commence preparations for the District Development Plan 9.

Councillor Jacob said Kweneng District was able, through the normal consultative process, to identify key issues affecting development as well as possible solutions through a project matrix in 2023.

“However, the ministry has advised districts to conduct consultations once more and ensure alignment of plans with the new government reforms. The district has since been given a submission deadline of June 17,2024,” said Mr Jacob.

The council chairperson therefore encouraged councillors to mobilise their communities during the exercise to afford them an inclusive planning process to ensure preparation of plans started with consultations.

Mr Jacob said preparation for the exercise was underway and a schedule for the plan preparation and a community consultation schedule would be shared in due course.
