Africa-Press – Botswana. After hosting a successful Davis Cup, Botswana has been given the rights to do it again with the International Tennis Federation and World Tennis Tour Juniors tournaments
The two J30 tournaments will take place from August 11 to 16, and August 18 to 23 respectively at the National Tennis Centre in Gaborone.
Players from Angola, Colombia, Great Britain Finland, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, Mozambique, USA, Lesotho, Korea, Zambia, Portugal and Kazakhstan have already registered.
Botswana Tennis Association, (BTA)vice president, Nonofo Othusitse said that The J30 tournaments (junior 30), denoting the tournaments number of points to be won, in this case 30 points, are referred to as J30 Gaborone.
He said hosting of the tournaments was part of the association’s efforts to expose local players to more international tournaments so that they could improve their level of play and rankings.
“We are now intentional in terms of creating opportunities and platforms for our players. You will recall that most of our players won their first international titles right here at home.
Denzel Seetso’s first title was right here at the National Tennis Centre and the same happened with Mark Nawa, Chelsea Chakanyuka and Naledi Raguin,” he said.
Othusitse said being the host worked in favour of the BTA because their players got to play in a familiar territory.
“Another advantage is that we get to have a great number of our players in the main draw, at times as many as 10 girls and 11 boys,” he said and thanked the nation and tennis lovers, for supporting Team Botswana during the just ended Davis Cup.
Entrance will be free and the public is invited to come witness some of the great talent in action among them, Seabo Saleshando, Martin Seetso, Tinashe Phatswane, Katlego Regoeng, Reagile Diraditsile, Malak Macheng, Angel Chakanyuka, Mbali Qame, Bashali Phatswane, Rethabile Moshaoa and Kagello Malumo.
