Africa-Press – Botswana. Plans are underway to procure and install a new x-ray machine at Kachikau clinic by June 2025, Minister of Health, Dr Stephen Modise has said.
He further noted that notwithstanding the general global shortage of radiographers, the ministry intended to increase the number of radiographers in the Chobe district from the current one.
The minister said that the nine-tray mortuary facility at Kachikau clinic was not functional, owing to temperature control issues. However, he said the mortuary was being attended to and once operational, it would service Kachikau and surrounding areas.
He said even though a temporary mortuary attendant was engaged, plans were underway to appoint a permanent one by the end of this month.
Dr Modise said the clinic was currently operational with a staff complement of 20 professional staff, which include a doctor, lab technician and 18 nurses, four of which were midwives.
He said the clinic provided out-patient and maternity services, among others.
The minister was responding to a parliamentary question by Chobe MP, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga who wanted to know when he intended to put Kachikau Clinic to full operational capacity with a mortuary attendant and certifying doctors and radiographer.
