Africa-Press – Botswana. Katkim Delight Dance team celebrated their cheerleading squad for the stellar performance displayed during the 2023 national cheer and majorettes championships.

Despite being in their infancy in cheerleading, Katkim started in grand style with their members causing a frenzy locally and in the region.

Botswana cheerleading federation president, Neo Selwe said their affiliate, KatKim cheerleaders were trailblazers in their own right and deserved to be celebrated for their hard work and resilience following their triumph at the national championships, which were held on December 2.

“The journey to the top was no easy feat for KatKim cheerleaders, who demonstrated dedication and teamwork throughout the season,” Selwe said during an appreciation ceremony in Gaborone on Saturday.

Selwe said the appreciation ceremony was more than just a celebration of victory but it was a demonstration to the power of dedication and commitment to excellence that KatKim cheerleaders had displayed.

However, Selwe acknowledged the challenges faced by the Botswana Cheerleading Federation, hindering their ability to continue providing a positive and empowering experience for local youth.

“Cheerleading is more than just flips and high-flying stunts, it is a sport that builds character, instills discipline and I urge organisations to come on board to support our sporting code as we continue on our journey to inspire younger generations to pursue their dreams with determination,” she said.

For her part, KatKim Delight Dance co-founder, Katlego Matheakgomo and a member of the cheerleading squad, said the win was a testament to the hard work and perseverance of her coach and team mates.

“We faced challenges head-on, supported each other every step of the way, and truly embodied the spirit of teamwork and sisterhood and I could not be prouder,” she said.

In addition to their national triumph, the founders and siblings of KatKim Delight Dance, Katlego and Kimberly Matheakgomo, secured top honours at the Africa championships in Durban on July 5.

They clinched the first position for freestyle pom and a commendable second place for hip hop doubles, bringing home two medals; a gold and a silver.
