Kaza Partner States Launch Green Growth Project

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) partner states—Botswana, Angola, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—have officially launched the Green Growth for KAZA Project. The initiative aims to drive sustainable development while conserving the rich ecosystems of one of Africa’s largest transboundary conservation landscapes, spanning approximately 520,000 square kilometres.

The project was unveiled during the 1st Africa Biodiversity Summit at the Royal Aria Convention Centre in Tlokweng. It seeks to promote tourism and biodiversity-based enterprises while supporting eco-friendly livelihoods for communities living within and around the conservation area.

By integrating economic development with environmental protection, the Green Growth for KAZA Project will create opportunities for local communities to benefit directly from conservation efforts. The initiative targets sustainable tourism ventures, wildlife-friendly agricultural practices, and the development of small-scale green enterprises that leverage natural resources responsibly.

Officials from the partner states emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in protecting biodiversity while stimulating economic growth. The project also aims to strengthen community engagement, ensuring that local populations actively participate in decision-making and benefit from conservation-led development.

Through this initiative, the KAZA partner states intend to position the region as a model for sustainable transboundary conservation. By combining ecological preservation with inclusive economic strategies, the Green Growth for KAZA Project will support both environmental resilience and long-term prosperity for the communities within the conservation area.
