Africa-Press – Botswana. Newly elected Member of Parliament for Serowe West, Mr Onalepelo Kedikilwe, has officially been sworn in as an MP. The legislator, who was elected to the 12th Parliament over the weekend through the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) ticket, was sworn in on Tuesday July 11.

Mr Kedikilwe’s swearing in follows a by–election held on Saturday where he emerged victorious.

He won over Mr Moemedi Dijeng of Botswana Democratic Party , Mr Sebusiso Ngwenya of Botswana Congress Party and an Independent candidate, Mr Kefilwe Koboto.

The Serowe West parliamentary seat fell vacant in April after the then Member of Parliament, Mr Tshekedi Khama, who had also won the constituency through the BPF ticket during the previous general election, failed to attend two consecutive parliamentary sessions.

The Speaker of the National Assembly declared a vacancy in the constituency and subsequently President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi issued a writ of elections.
