Africa-Press – Botswana. Former Selebi Phikwe West Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse was on Thursday endorsed by MPs as Speaker of the 13th Parliament.

He was the only nominee and becomes the 10th Speaker of Botswana Parliament, succeeding past immediate Speaker, Mr Phandu Skelemani.

Mr Keorapetse was MP for Selebi Phikwe West for two terms from 2014-2024, initially under the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) ticket and later under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

He did not succeed in his bid to win the constituency for the third time in the October 30 general elections.

He was Leader Of Opposition during the 12th Parliament.

A Political Science graduate, Mr Keorapetse’s political career started with the BCP, where he remained for a long time, but left the party in 2022.
