Africa-Press – Botswana. Kgatleng Land Board will hold consultations across the district to apprise stakeholders about amendments to the new Tribal Land Act of 2018.

Speaking during the special full council meeting recently, Kgatleng Land Board member, Mr Amos Dilampi said the new land fees had been regulated and were done for government to recover costs.

Amongst the new amendments is the P50 land fee application, the P3 000 fee for the transfer of land either as a gift or sale and the P500 site/sketch plan fee.

He said since those amendments were made, they had consulted the local authorities and were yet to hold kgotla meetings to sensitise the public.

Councillors suggested that the P50 land fee application should be reduced to P20 to coverthe unemployed.

They also said the P3 000 transfer of land fee should be categorised into two; those selling land charged P3 000 and those gifting the land charged P500.

Councillors also advised the land board to extend consultations to even those in remote area settlements to ensure that no one was left behind.

They said soft copies of the amendments should also be made available online.
