Africa-Press – Botswana. In response to shortage of blood in the national blood banks for an extended period in Botswana, KGK Diamonds volunteered to participate in a blood donation exercise.
In an interview recently, Ms Connie Mooketsi, employee relations personnel for KGK Diamonds said that the initiative was implemented first by encouraging their employees and motivating them to donate blood.
“This is our very first campaign and the turn up is very encouraging as all of the 60 employees that registered to donate had indeed turned up,” said Mooketsi.
She encouraged the community members to be regular donors, because by doing that they would be saving lives of the loved ones, and bringing happiness to families around the country.
To help bolster health facilities supplies, KGK Diamonds business development manager, Mr Siddarth Gothi said they would carry out blood donation campaigns every four months.
Further, he said blood was the most essential fluids of the body that helped in its smooth functioning, therefore donating blood was equal to saving a person’s life.
One of the employees, Mr King-David Monnamorwa, a first time blood donor, assured Batswana that the procedure was not painful as it had been portrayed by some.
“People should not be afraid of the needle because it is not really painful, it’s a small pinch, and even if it was painful, it is worth enduring since your blood will save lives,” he said.
He said donating blood was the most priceless gifts one can give to another.
“Donate blood and be the reason for someone’s existence,” he said.
