Africa-Press – Botswana. His Excellency the former President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama arrived in London this morning. The Former President is on a private working visit to the United Kingdom and Italy where he has a full programme of engagements with his hosts in the two countries, as well as legislators, business and charity and conservation organisations.

In the United Kingdom Khama has been invited to engage with government officials, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. He will also be hosted by conservation personalities and organisations where he is to be appointed President of a leading conservation establishment.

This follows the setting up of a new conservation trust in South Africa to be launched on his return and for which he is patron.

Still in the United Kingdom the former President is scheduled to give two rounds of interviews with the British and international media over the period of his engagements.

In Italy General Khama will participate in a conference on peace and governance drawing examples from across the globe. The Peace conference will be attended by eminent persons and several dignitaries including other former Presidents and Prime Ministers.

General Khama was invited to the meetings in recognition of his legacy and insights into democracy and quality of life on the African continent with particular notice of his outspoken stance against repressive regimes and unwavering support for justice, promotion of the welfare state and political accountability.
