Africa-Press – Botswana. Local talented music group, Khoisan have once again outdone themselves with beautiful music performances that brought life to the first edition of Women’s Awards Botswana first edition at Travel Lodge in Gaborone on Friday.
The group’s breathtaking performance juiced up the awards that were somehow gloomy. The two lead singers engaged the revelers in their songs making the whole auditorium dance with joy.
They sung some of their popular songs in the likes of Marabele, Sethubege, Nkunkuretse and Mpoledise. They also treated the audience with a song from their upcoming project. Further, they said the song would be released on the next few coming weeks. The two singers’ energy and vibey presence on stage was enough to get everyone off their feet dancing the night away. Amongst the entertainers for the night was Ms Abbey whose music and dance performance was also breath taking. Since the event was about glitz and glam, many individuals were dressed to kill.
Every person described themselves, their feelings through the attires they put on. Above all, revellers who were mostly women looked fabulous in their choice of attires.
The awards were hosted under a theme; ‘we are capable, we can.’ The lucky award winners include Tebogo Lebotse Sebego who scooped the Woman of the Year award, Sprint Couriers won Best Woman Owned Business award, Berry Heart went away with Influential Woman of the Year, Masi Sethole with Best Woman In Style & Fashion, Zizi Panther with Media Woman Of The Year, Pearl Gaone Ranna with Best Woman In Agriculture, Chaikhwa Nani Lobatse Woman of The Year In Environmental, Health & Fitness Awareness and the Best Woman Living With Disability awards. Addressing the gathering, the founder and editor in chief of Woman to Woman Magazine Rosalind Tafadwa Kwinje said the first edition of Women’s Awards came at a time when the odds were against them and not conducive for doing business. She added that as they celebrate women’s amazing work in business all over the country, they needed to be reminded that progress for women was progress for all. “Giving more opportunities to women, besides being a matter of rights is also a manifestation of good economic sense.
The awards also come at an opportune time when we celebrate the women’s month which is the month of March. It is true that we are all born with a business of sorts in all of us but not everyone pursues that to the end. Any woman starting her career as an academia, business woman, innovator or any other discipline, whatever you do, be different, be you and be more ambitious,” she said. For her part, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Peggy Serame said the day would go down in history as a day women in Botswana stood up to say they were capable, and celebrate their brilliance and excellence. She explained that March was the Women History Month, and accords them an opportunity to reflect their contribution as women and how they could forge gender equality in all spheres of life. “Today is also an opportunity for us to engage more on how we can collectively create a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
Let me also take this opportunity to thank Women’s Awards Botswana Team for bringing us together to celebrate a constellation of women across the country, in all sectors. The Awards ceremony will indeed raise awareness for women to be granted equal participation, particularly in decision making positions. This is one way of breaking the bias and it demonstrates the Awards’ contribution to the theme of this year’s women’s month,” she explained.
The managing director of ABSA Keabetswe Pheko- Moshagane applauded Women’s Awards Botswana team for a good gesture saying that she hoped they would become a calendar event that they could all look forward to annually. She said she had been inspired by the profiles of all nominees and the amazing work they do urging them to continue to achieve. “As a female leader, I know that you face many challenges and fight all sorts of stereotypes on your path to achieve your dreams.
Tonight, is a testimony that women respond to the challenges and stereotypes by showing great leadership and excellence. We celebrate the nominees, their life stories, their individual successes and their hopes for the future, let us be reminded that they represent many other women leaders whose stories we will not hear today and will probably never hear,” she said.
